Budget Bobber. 1981 Yamaha XS650

Back in October of last year I found a beat up Yamaha on craigslist with little information and no picture. It was a 1981 Yamaha XS650 Heritage Special. It had been sitting in an old lady’s garage in San Francisco for the last 15 years. It was a total turd of bike so I decided to chop it up with a friend of mine.

We wanted to go for an old school bobber look. Something very popular with this model of motorcycle. Neither of us had any money to spend on this so we had to re-use or make as many of the parts as possible.

How it looked when I bought it

A few more shots of the bike revealing how 15 years idle treated the bike.

You can see that it was in rough shape.

I started the teardown of the bike and had it stripped to the frame after a few hours and a couple of beers.

The next step is to start polishing this turd till it shines like solid gold. Or at least cheap pot metal.
